dc.description.abstractLos emberá-chamí, pueblo indígena colombiano, enfrentan una serie de desafíos significativos que amenazan su rica herencia cultural y su existencia misma. Uno de estos desafíos es la práctica de ablación o mutilación genital femenina -MGF-1, llevada a cabo como parte de sus tradiciones culturales. Esta investigación aborda la promoción de la igualdad de género, los derechos humanos y la autonomía de las mujeres en la comunidad. Se enfoca no solo en identificar los factores culturales, sociales y contextuales que contribuyen a la práctica de la MGF, sino también en erradicarla y replicar este esfuerzo en otras comunidades indígenas en Colombia. Con un diseño metodológico de investigación exploratoria, esta investigación se aborda desde una perspectiva intercultural y de respeto a los derechos humanos, reconociendo la importancia de proteger las tradiciones culturales de los pueblos indígenas, mientras se garantiza la integridad y los derechos de las mujeres a vivir libres de violencia y discriminación. Es así que toda intervención fue mediada por mujeres de la propia comunidad, dado que la MFG es un tema tabú, asegurando con ello intervenciones concertadas, respetando y valorando la cosmovisión, autonomía y plan de vida de los emberá-chamí. Se logra entonces, generar conciencia sobre la importancia de proteger los derechos de las mujeres y los pueblos indígenas promoviendo un diálogo intercultural y la colaboración entre la comunidad emberá-chamí, las instituciones gubernamentales y las organizaciones de la sociedad civil, encontrando soluciones que respetan la diversidad cultural y garantizan el bienestar de todas las personas involucradas.
dc.description.abstractengThe Emberá-Chamí, a Colombian indigenous people, face a series of significant challenges that threaten their rich cultural heritage and very existence. One of these challenges is the practice of female genital mutilation (FGM), carried out as part of their cultural traditions. This research addresses the promotion of gender equality, human rights, and women's autonomy in the community. It focuses not only on identifying the cultural, social, and contextual factors that contribute to the practice of FGM but also on eradicating it and replicating this effort in other indigenous communities in Colombia. With an exploratory research design, this study is approached from an intercultural perspective and respect for human rights, recognizing the importance of protecting the cultural traditions of indigenous peoples while ensuring the integrity and rights of women to live free from violence and discrimination. Therefore, every intervention was mediated by women from the community itself, given that FGM is a taboo subject, ensuring concerted interventions that respect and value the worldview, autonomy, and life plan of the Emberá-Chamí. This approach generates awareness about the importance of protecting the rights of women and indigenous peoples by promoting intercultural dialogue and collaboration between the Emberá-Chamí community, governmental institutions, and civil society organizations. The goal is to find solutions that respect cultural diversity and ensure the well-being of all involved.
